History: Senior Life & Wellness Club (SL&WC) is the downtown Spartanburg Senior Facility. Currently, it also provides Group Dining for seniors from the Inman, Landrum, and Woodruff communities. The site opened in June, 2006, and was developed through a partnership with the Spartanburg Housing Authority using grants and appropriated monies to rehab and construct a new facility. Senior Centers of Spartanburg County provides daily planning and operations including Group Dining and special programs and activities. In addition, Senior Centers provides SL&WC with a full staff: Site Director, Activities Director, Group Dining Coordinator, Case Worker (who is a Master Trainer for Chronic Disease Self Management and Matter of Balance programs), Receptionist, Administrative Clerk, AARP personnel and wonderful volunteers. Space and a staff person for the Computer Lab is provided by Spartanburg Housing Authority.
Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
Activities
Red Hat Society
Members meet at 10:30 a.m. on 1st Tuesday of each month @ Senior Life & Wellness Club.
Computer Lab
Members and residents of Archibald can use the computer lab and have a person on-hand for any help they may need. A good way to keep in touch with friends and relatives is by email.
Shopping Trips
Monthly morning shopping trips are offered to the outlet mall and other stores.
Arts & CraftsJoin your colleges in making something to share with friends and family.
Lunch
When: Monday-Friday @ 11:30 a.m.
Pre-registration required. Group dining is done on a reservation system; you must make reservations at least one day in advance by noon for a meal the next business day.
Fee: Donations are accepted and appreciated!Federal dollars and other donations make up the difference in cost. Non-eligible guests must pay the full cost of the meal which is $4.40 per meal.

Health & Wellness
Exercise
Member participation in daily exercise is encouraged. Sometimes members exercise to music and sometimes they use an Arthritis Exercise DVD on the large screen where everyone can see and hear. Thanks to a grant from the Spartanburg County Foundation, seniors have state of the art equipment.
Exercise Room
Treadmills, recumbent bike and a Wii is available; a physician's release is required to use this equipment.
Programs
Professionals from various health fields lend their expertise to educational programs weekly at SL&WC.
In addition, the following programs are offered:
- Stepping Up Program is a steps counting program using pedometers sponsored by Windsor Medicare Extra.
- Blood Pressure checks are conducted at least weekly. Check with the center to find out when.
- Senior Stroll - Members walk three times a week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:45 a.m.

In addition, the following programs are offered:
- The Chronic Disease Self Management Program (CDSMP) is a six-week, two hour per week program developed by Stanford University. Senior Centers received an initial three year grant (2007) through the Lt. Governor's Office on Aging and NCOA to begin the program. The program is administered by trained facilitators; two staff members are Master Trainers, and can teach others to become trained facilitators. Using techniques such as brainstorming and action plans, participants can learn how to better manage their chronic diseases.
- Matter of Balance (MOB) is an eight week program that can be presented twice a week for one month or can be presented once a week for eight weeks. Classes for 2 hours each session and learn techniques and exercises to help prevent falls. This program mirrors one developed by Maine Health. Senior Centers has two staff members who are Master Trainers for this program as well.
